What Item 226 is used for

The prescribed medical practitioner (PMP) equivalent of item 705: a time-tiered health assessment for eligible patients, 45 to under 60 minutes of face-to-face time. Time bands and eligibility criteria follow the GP series (701–707); the fee is lower than the GP equivalent ($182.15 here against $227.75 for item 705). There is no PMP version of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health assessment (715), and other medical practitioners (OMPs) cannot claim health assessment items.

From 1 November 2026 (subject to legislation — confirm on MBS Online) items 224–227 are also used for the Medicare Healthy Kids Check: a once-per-child, lifetime health assessment for Medicare-eligible 3-year-olds, with no change to descriptors, fees or co-claiming restrictions.
