Every entry route into Australian GP / Rural Generalist fellowship, in one place — across both colleges. Filter by college, funding and who it's actually for. This is a reference to browse, not a recommendation — for a step-by-step walkthrough of your own situation, use the RACGP pathway selector or the RACGP vs ACRRM tool instead.

Rural Generalist stream (within AGPT)RACGP or ACRRM
Government-fundedRural/remote
Rural Generalist training sits inside AGPT, not alongside it — the 100 separate Rural Generalist Training Scheme places were folded into AGPT in 2026. Leads to FRACGP-RG (RACGP) or FACRRM (ACRRM), with advanced procedural skills (anaesthetics, obstetrics, emergency, surgery).
Training in Modified Monash Model (MMM) 2–7 locations, with ACRRM requiring at least 12 months in MMM 4–7.

For experienced doctors not yet vocationally recognised who can't access AGPT — including those on a temporary visa, without general AHPRA registration yet, or who trained overseas. ACRRM's self-funded equivalent to RACGP's FSP.

Rural Experienced Entry to Fellowship (REEF) Under reviewACRRM
Funding not publishedAssessment route
An accelerated route to FACRRM for doctors who already hold specialist GP registration and have 5+ years of rural clinical experience since — no standard training route required. ACRRM is currently reviewing REEF following the recognition of Rural Generalist medicine as its own specialty, so apply via Expression of Interest rather than a standard application right now.
Needs active ACRRM membership, unconditional specialist GP registration, extended rural practice relevant to community need, and current AMC-accredited CPD.

ACRRM Specialist Pathway (international)ACRRM
Funding not publishedComparability assessment
ACRRM's equivalent to RACGP's PEP-SP: for IMGs who already hold a recognised overseas general practice qualification and want it assessed as comparable to an Australian-trained Rural Generalist/GP, rather than starting training from scratch.
Confirm current eligibility, fees and process directly with ACRRM — not detailed on the public pathways page.

Fellowship Support Program (FSP)RACGP
Self-fundedReplaced PEP Standard
RACGP's self-funded route for non-vocationally-registered doctors (mostly IMGs) who can't access AGPT. Supervised training at an accredited practice, with workplace-based assessments. Replaced the now-closed PEP Standard program.
Changed structure for 2027.1 — eligibility, entry assessment and education model differ from the 2026.2 intake. From 2026.1, training sites/supervisors must meet RACGP training standards; from 2026.2, applicants complete a national entry assessment. Leads to Fellowship of RACGP.

Practice Experience Program — Specialist stream (PEP-SP)RACGP
Self-funded6-month supervised term
For overseas-trained specialist GPs assessed by RACGP as substantially or partially comparable to an Australian-trained GP — a short supervised term rather than years of training. The route most IMGs who are already qualified GPs overseas will use.
Comparability application $575; program fee $11,900 (new participants). Six months of supervised general practice, with partially-comparable participants also sitting RACGP Fellowship exams (AKT, KFP, CCE). Apply within 12 months of your comparability outcome. Fees current as of May 2024 — confirm before applying.
