📋 These are minimum rates under the NTCER. Practices may pay above these. The NTCER is not an award — it is a minimum standard from which you negotiate. Rates effective from Semester 2, 2026 (from first full pay period after 1 July 2026) (v2026.2). GPRA · gpra.org.au — Oct 2025

A note on the percentage. The 44.79% NTCER floor is verified and mandatory. Percentages above that are negotiated practice-by-practice — there's no published "typical" or "average" figure, despite what some sources claim. If you see "60% is standard," treat it with scepticism. What you can rely on is the 44.79% floor.
Take-home pay — after tax, Medicare levy & HELP/HECS
Based on whichever is higher above — your base rate or your percentage of billings — as your gross taxable income for the year.

This is an estimate, not tax or financial advice. It assumes you're above the Medicare levy low-income threshold and doesn't include the Low Income Tax Offset, the Medicare Levy Surcharge, HELP indexation, salary packaging, or any rural loading/on-call/after-hours pay on top of base — all of which can change your actual take-home. Confirm your own figures with the ATO's own calculator or a tax agent.

Base vs billings: You earn the higher of your base rate OR the percentage of your billings your practice offers (NTCER floor 44.79%). In a busy practice you often earn above the base rate. The base is a floor, not a ceiling.
📅
Billing cycle: From 2025.1, billings must be calculated at least monthly (changed from 13-weekly). This is a significant improvement for cash flow. NTCER v2026.2
💰
Super rate: 12% from 1 July 2025 (the final legislated rate — no further increase). Paid ON TOP of base rate, not included in the base figures. Superannuation Guarantee Act
📝
Annual leave: 4 weeks per year (20 days), plus public holidays. Leave is paid at base rate. Negotiate to be paid via billings rather than receipts where possible. NTCER v2026.2
🏥
After hours / on-call: Must be agreed and paid above the base rate. Document carefully in your employment agreement. NTCER v2026.2
