What Item 701 is used for

A brief comprehensive health assessment for eligible patients — includes 45–49 year old health check, 75+ health assessment (short version), and refugee health assessment. Must be not more than 30 minutes of face-to-face time.

From 1 November 2026 (subject to legislation — confirm on MBS Online) these time-tiered items are also used for the Medicare Healthy Kids Check: a once-per-child, lifetime health assessment for Medicare-eligible 3-year-olds, with no change to descriptors, fees or co-claiming restrictions. The prescribed medical practitioner equivalent is item 224.
