How to get your Medicare card on your phone — and why it won’t go into Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Your Medicare card lives in the myGov app wallet — not in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Download the myGov app, link Medicare to your myGov account, then tap Wallet → Add to wallet.
The Medicare card is not supported in Apple Wallet. It won’t appear alongside your debit cards or transport cards. Some third-party apps claim to add it, but these are not official and not recognised by Medicare.
Same situation on Android. The Medicare card does not go into Google Wallet. Use the myGov app instead — you can pin it to your home screen for quick access.
The official digital Medicare card is stored inside the myGov app’s own wallet. It’s accepted at GP practices, hospitals, and pharmacies — and it has a security hologram and QR code so staff can verify it’s genuine, not just a screenshot.
Search for myGov in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). It’s free and published by the Australian Government. Make sure you download the official app — not a lookalike.

If you already have a myGov account, sign in. If not, you’ll need to create one at my.gov.au. You’ll need to verify your identity during setup.
Go to Services and check that Medicare is linked. If it isn’t, select Medicare and follow the prompts. You’ll need your Medicare card number to link it. This only needs to be done once.
From the myGov app home screen, tap Wallet. Then tap Add to wallet and select Medicare card. Follow the on-screen steps.
Once added, you can pin the Medicare card to the myGov app home screen for one-tap access. This is the closest equivalent to having it in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
The digital card shows the same information as your physical card: your name, Medicare number, and reference number. It also includes two security features not on the physical card:
Your immunisation history statement (COVID-19 and flu) can be added to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet — but this is separate to your Medicare card.
To add it: sign in to myGov → Medicare → Proof of vaccinations → View COVID-19 and flu statement → tap Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet.

Yes. The digital Medicare card shown through the myGov app is legally accepted anywhere a physical card is accepted — including GP practices, hospitals, pathology labs, and pharmacies. The QR code lets reception staff verify it on the spot.
Carry your physical Medicare card — it’s still valid. If you’ve lost it or don’t have it with you, reception staff at your GP can often look up your details by name and date of birth, or you can contact Medicare on 132 011 to request a replacement card.
The digital card in the myGov app shows all the people listed on the card (up to 5 people can be on one Medicare card number). Each person with their own myGov account can access the digital card individually. Children under 15 are managed by a parent or guardian.
Request a replacement card through your Medicare online account (via myGov), the myGov app, or by calling Medicare on 132 011. A replacement card is posted to your address on file. In the meantime, use your digital card in the myGov app — it’s valid immediately.
If you hold both a DVA Veteran Card and a Medicare card, you can access the digital Medicare card through myGov. DVA Veteran Card holders who have linked Medicare to myGov can use the same myGov app wallet. Contact DVA on 1800 838 372 for specific questions about your entitlements.
