Do GPs need written consent for minor procedures?

Written informed consent is strongly recommended for any procedure that carries risk, even minor ones. While verbal consent may be legally sufficient in some cases, a signed consent form protects both the patient and the clinician by documenting that risks, benefits, and alternatives were discussed.

What procedures require a consent form?

Any procedure that involves physical intervention should have documented consent. Common GP procedures include skin excisions, IUD insertion or removal, joint injections, ingrown toenail surgery, cryotherapy, wound suturing, ear syringing, and implanon insertion or removal.
