Item 11607 is claimable by a medical practitioner (not specialist-restricted), so GPs can bill it where the criteria are met. The key point: it is for confirming suspected hypertension in an untreated patient — not for monitoring someone already on treatment.

11607 ABPM · once / 12 months
Changes to item 11607 from 1 November 2026 (MBS data file effective 1 Nov 2026; fee unchanged at $123.20). 1. New paediatric pathway: for a patient aged 5 years or more and under 18, the blood-pressure criterion can be met by measurements, on consecutive clinic visits, of systolic or diastolic pressure in a range defined by the 95th percentile — the schedule words it as “between the 95th percentile and 95th percentile ‑ 30 mmHg, based on limits appropriate to the patient’s age, sex and height”. The threshold wording reads unusually, so confirm it on MBS Online before applying it. 2. Longer exclusion list: the four new phone chronic-condition-plan items (92033, 92034, 92063, 92064) are added to the services 11607 cannot be associated with. The adult criteria (140–180 and/or 90–110 mmHg), the “not yet on antihypertensive therapy” rule and the once-per-12-months rule are unchanged.

From 1 November 2026, item 11607 is expanded to include children and adolescents aged 5 to under 18 (percentile-based thresholds). See MBS item 11607.

🫀 Holter / ambulatory ECG is different. Items 11716, 11717, 11723, 11735 (continuous ≥12-hour, 7-day, and patient-activated/loop ECG monitoring) are billed by a specialist or consultant physician — a GP refers, and the reporting service claims the item. There is no GP item for Holter.
