All vaccinations on the National Immunisation Schedule are free for tamariki under 18 — regardless of visa or citizenship status, including visitors to New Zealand.

🤰 Pregnancy

Whooping cough (Tdap) — 1 dose recommended from 16 weeks of each pregnancy.

Flu — 1 dose for every pregnancy, at any stage. Free.

COVID-19 — if not up to date, free at any stage of pregnancy.

6 Weeks

3 vaccinations

Rotavirus — oral drops (dose 1 of 2). Must be given before 15 weeks.

Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, hepatitis B, Hib (Infanrix-hexa) — dose 1 of 3.

Pneumococcal (Synflorix) — dose 1 of 3.

3 Months

3 vaccinations

Rotavirus — oral drops (dose 2 of 2). Must be given before 25 weeks.

Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, hepatitis B, Hib — dose 2 of 3.

Meningococcal B (Bexsero) — dose 1 of 3.

5 Months

3 vaccinations

Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio, hepatitis B, Hib — dose 3 of 3.

Pneumococcal — dose 2 of 3.

Meningococcal B — dose 2 of 3.

6 Months+

Flu — recommended annually from 6 months old. Free for at-risk children. If first time, 2 doses 4 weeks apart (under 9 years).

12 Months

3 vaccinations

MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) — dose 1 of 2.

Pneumococcal — dose 3 of 3.

Meningococcal B — dose 3 of 3.

15 Months

3 vaccinations

Hib — booster dose.

MMR — dose 2 of 2.

Chickenpox (varicella) — single dose.

4 Years

1 vaccination

Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, polio — booster dose before starting school.

11–12 Years (Year 7 & 8)

HPV (human papillomavirus) — 2 doses, 6–12 months apart. Free for everyone aged 9–26.

Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough) — booster dose.

45 Years

Tdap — booster dose.

65 Years

Tdap — booster dose.

Flu — free annually from 65.

Shingles — 2 doses, given 2–6 months apart. Free at 65.
